Author Interview with Gina Whitney (@ginamwhitney)

AfterDark Online is happy to interview Gina Whitney, an author of an intriguing rocker romance, and she’s going to talk about Ollie.

Welcome, to get started, why don’t you tell us about yourself and the genre you write?

I am an author of seven novels, Blood Ties, Beautiful Lies, Saving Abel, Forgiving Gia, Avenging Us, Luca, and soon Ollie. In December 2015, I partnered with Leddy Harper to release The Power of a Woman. I’m best known for my themes of erotica wrapped around soul-searing passion that bring my readers into the story with a range of emotions.

Im born and raised in New York and reside in Massapequa, with my two beautiful boys. You can usually find me typing furiously while shouting obscenities over my latest WIP or reading a book that sends my heart racing. I’m pathologically obsessed with anything to do with royals, Games of Thrones, Billions, Vampire Diaries, Homeland, SOA, Penny Dreadful, The Vikings and The Originals.

How long have you been writing, and what inspired you to write the genre you love?

I’ve been writing since 2010, and have always been an avid reader. My divorce is what prompted me to make the leap from reader to author. My first release ‘Blood Ties’ is a PNR. Which is my first love. Erotica, surprisingly became my comfort zone. Specifically, dark erotica. I prefer dealing with real issues and broken people. Aren’t we all broken in some way? Doesn’t our fractures make us who we are today. I know mine are!

How many books have you published? Also what kind of support do you receive with your passion?

This summer I will be releasing my eighth book. I don’t see myself pigeonholed into that specific genre. Yes, it comes easier and is my comfort zone. However, I always challenge myself to write other genres. Speaking of which, I will be doing a RonCom and Contemporary. Although, I suspect they will also hold dark notes.

How many books have you written so far, and which of them did you find to be the most and those that were very challenging?

I’ve published seven so far with Ollie releasing soon will make eight. Hmm, the RonCom I’m working on is the most challenging. Not by much, but more finding my Zen between erotica and contemporary(light and dark).

Describe the kind of audience you want to aim for? How do you define your style unique from others?

When I write I’m not thinking of targeting a specific audience. Rather, aiming for the readers who appreciate having their emotions held captive, appreciate like being hungover, and enjoy a hot angsty ride.

When you write, are you more character-driven or story-driven? Also, do you aim for realism or just fiction?

Oh, I’m as real as it gets. Every sentence is carefully-crafted to cut you deep. Make you feel and hold your breath. It’s always about realism for me, and I’m mostly character driven. It’s my character’s that drive the story.

Tell us about your current release, Ollie? When was it released?

I’m working on Ollie. Which is book two, in the I love the way you lie duet. I’m a bit behind due to a recent back surgery. However, I hoping to have him wrapped up and released very shortly. Here’s his synopsis.

Two men.
One woman.

During one of the darkest moments in Allison’s life, she met two men. She loved them both, but not equally. One made her feel alive when she was so close to feeling dead inside. The other made her feel safe, protecting her against the world.
One took her heart, and then vanished.
The other settled for her friendship, but never stopped loving her.

Two hearts.
One choice.

The rocker who became her rock.
Or the flame who’s burned her more than once.
One she can’t live with.
The other she can’t live without.

What do you do when the one who broke you is the only one who can fix you? And the one who has always been there, hiding in the shadows for his chance, is now taking center stage?

Do you have a little excerpt teasers to share, so our readers could get an idea?

Here’s a video trailer and I hope you love as much as I do. It truly captures the characters, story, and emotions brilliantly.

How long did it take you to complete your project, and is there anything trivial you’d like to share about your book; something people weren’t aware of at the time you wrote the story?

I usually don’t take this long to complete a manuscript. However, the emotion of the story has left me exhausted and an emotional mess. Often times I’ve had to close my laptop to give in to tears. I’m not one to cry…ever(or rarely). So, this just goes to show you how anguishing it’s been. My readers will get me loud and clear. They’ve experienced it before and this book will be no different. To any new readers…hang on!

What other projects are you currently working on, and what do you expect readers to hear about you in the near future?

As I said, I’m working on a RomCom short to be released in a mult-author anthology. TBR in August. Soon after that(early Fall), I will release Cold Hard Cash. A dark Contemporary romance about a hedge-fund CEO. I’m super excited about it, and have already fallen for his unique brand of alpha.

Is there any advice you could give to others that want to get into writing?

My best advice is to read. Reading is the foundation for a great writer. Look at the authors in your favorite genre, follow them on social media, review their books, look at other reviews to see what drives other readers and then sit for a period of time everyday to train yourself. Learn to write something everyday. Don’t worry about word count, but about content, characterization, plot, pacing and world building. Novels should not be all dialog, and should paint you into a scene like walking you through a movie. At least that’s how I see it. With each book I grow. Growth is your friend! I read in between releases(binge), because I enjoy the downtime, but also like to see what’s trending.

Where can readers purchase your books?
